🇮🇹 Trovo il colore di questo  convolvolo ipnotico. A settembre ho fatto una passeggiata cercando di catturare solo i fiori con variazioni di viola.

Fra le tante piante che ho fotografato, questo rampicante ha catturato la mia attenzione. La corolla così grande, I rami tutti protesi verso l'azzurro del cielo e il suo colore talmente intenso da sembrare dipinto. Ho scoperto che il convolvolo viene chiamato anche "Bella di giorno", come il personaggio di Catherine Deneuve nel film di Bunuel.

Però sapevo già che il convolvolo è considerato lo strangolatore fra le piante. Infatti si aggrappa così forte alle altre che finisce per ucciderle.

Osservando la forma ed il colore, avevo già pensato di colorarlo con i pennarelli, perché sono coprenti, vibranti ed intensi. Secondo me, con questo schizzo, ho reso subito la giusta saturazione. 

Devo ammettere che ho in mente qualcosa di molto più grafico, ma già averlo rappresentato mi consente di familiarizzare con la sua grazia e attrazione. Lo stile della corolla, le ramificazioni fluttuanti e le foglie ampie e verde scuro mi hanno suggerito la cornice, una sorta di libero zen-tangle. 😊 Volevo rendere quasi le stampe delle confezioni di profumo degli anni ’20, epoca attratta dalle passioni vorticose, proprio come il simbolismo di questo fiore. 

Il mio sketchbook si è arricchito di un altro spunto, usando anche dei pennarelli economici, non quelli da belle arti che si possono sfumare. Ora, l’aver catturato semplicemente la sua intensa leggiadria è stato un buon esercizio per lavorare all’idea che mi ha suggerito durante una normale passeggiata dietro casa.

🇬🇧 I find the colour of this bindweed quite hypnotic. Last September, I had a walk and I began looking for those flowers with different shades of violet. 

Among the numerous plants in my photos, this climbing caught my imagination. Its big corolla, its twigs all stretched towards the blue sky and its colour was so intense that it looked like painted. Recently, I found out that the bindweed is also called “Belle de jour”, just like Catherine Deneuve in the Bunuel’s movie. 

Though, I knew that convolvolo is considered the “strangler” in botany, because it climbs so tight to the other plants around, ending up to kill them. 

Looking at its look and colour, I was already thinking to draw with markers: they are opaque, vibrating and intense. In this sketch, for me, I conveyed the right saturation. 

I must say that I had in mind something more graphic, but the fact I was able to represent this flower allows me to become familiar with its grace and charm. The style in its corolla, those fluctuating twigs and its big, dark-green leaves suggested me the frame, just like a sort of free zen-tangle. 😊 I would like to have drawn those old printed box for perfumes of the 1920s, an era fascinated by whirlwind passions, just like the symbolism of the flower. 

My sketchbook got another spark, coloured with cheap markers, not those ones for fine art with the blender. Now, easy catching the exact intense elegance turns out to be a good exercise for me to begin to work to that idea, flashed through my mind just walking around my neighborhood.
