Bowie

Quando avevo nove anni, ho comprato il  mio primo vinile Greatest Hits di Bowie, perché ero appassionata del look di Ziggy Stardust - così ante-punk, le mie considerazioni a riguardo erano piuttosto confuse, in quegli anni - e di "Let's Dance"! 

Fra i dodici e i tredici anni, ho disegnato questo ritratto con una matita HB. Senza nessun punto di riferimento, griglia, ero solita disegnare più schizzi che veri disegni. I miei tratti erano leggeri, perché odiavo quando dovevo cancellare e i segni erano troppo pesanti. Qualche anno dopo, ho imparato osservando alcuni disegni di una compagna di classe quanto fossero d'impatto, profondi e più scuri per la morbidezza della grafite, ideali per il mio stile. 

Poi, ho provato le matite B, B2, B4, ho lavorato a strati, quasi scolpendo il foglio. 

Ad ogni modo, la Musica è il Tappeto Magico. Quando stavo disegnando questo ritratto, ascoltavo "Let's Dance". I suoni sono importanti per creare, per raggiungere il giusto umore per trasportare un'idea su un foglio o una tela, attraverso i movimenti delle mani. 

When I was nine, I bought my first vinyl Greatest Hits by Bowie, because I was keen of the look of Ziggy Stardust - so pre-punk, my considerations about it were a little confused, those years - and of Let's Dance! 

At nearly thirteen, I drew this portrait with an HB pencil. Without any point of reference, technique, framing, I used to draw sketches more than real drawings. My lines were light, because I hated when the mistakes were too heavy to be erased. Some years after, I learnt looking at the impressive drawings of one classmate, that the deepness and and the darkest softness of graphite was ideal to my style.

Then, I tried B, B2, B4 pencils, worked in layers, nearly sculpturing the sheet. 

Anyway, Music is the Magic Carpet. When I was drawing this portrait, I was listening to "Let's Dance". The sounds are important to create, to move towards the right mood to transport one idea over a sheet or a canvas, through the gestures of hands.
