🇬🇧 Nothing more than a trip can shake creativity: Assisi is a little city in Umbria, in the heart of Italy, rich of history and spirituality. It has a sweet countryside, full of hills and valleys, olive grove, pale blue horizons and every house, avenue and tower enjoys whoever passes through.
For me, Assisi deals with the saint who inspires my name, San Francesco. Anywhere, the Umbrian city seems crystallized at 1300, the times of Crusades, of the cities which began claiming their share in economy and politics, liberating themselves from feudalism.
The hazel-coloured walls and the bright white of the Roman monument of the Minerva or Ercules Temple shine under the Sun and birds fearlessly fly, challenging with the bells resounding from churches, basilicas and cathedral at midday and at six o'clock. Spring is an ideal moment to stroll along Assisi's alleys and squares.
The faces of the walking people caught my attention: they were joyful, blushed but calm. I notice because I live in a metropolis as Rome, where going around the city seems just like a torture, the most common expression is grinding our teeth, trying to reach our destination while we are escaping against the flow of the crowd! 😁
Assisi colours are hazel and bright blue, as those decorations I saw on the plates in the souvenir shop-windows.
Painting with watercolours this  view from Piazza di Santa Chiara, I also saw several shades of green: crowns of olive towards silver, cypress trees shading to dark blue, and the emerald of those just cut fields. I understand why Raphaël Santium could show such a splendid blue skies, that were fading away. He himself came from Umbria, at the middle of Italy, and who knows how many days in his life were delighted by such a beautiful view! 😮
